hi, my DS is 2 and a bit - and at nursery where 10 children have come down with chickenpox. Over the last 2 days he has not wanted to eat much at all and then tonight has been sick twice - he seems happy other than this. Has anyone else experienced lack of appetite and vomiting as an early sign of chickenpox.
Thanks so much

Hello, When my DD had chicken pox the other mth she had cold like symptoms that started the same day the spots came out. The nxt night she was sick & every night thereafter. I had to stop giving her any type of milk completely. Each time she had milk (even on cereal) she was sick later on, she was sick mainly night times . 5 days into her having CP i spoke to the Drs about her being sick and they said it is a typical symptom that goes with CP. A mild fever generaly comes part and parcel with CP i have been told since.
Oh and yes she went off all meat and fish. She kept eating fruit and veg though. Oh and took a big liking to biscuits - Rich Tea mainly.
You would not have gussed she had CP cause she was completely the same as normal in her self (running about, dancing etc) Just had a few down / ill moments now and then.
Hope this helps

Lack of apetite definitely, and whilst neither of mine were actually sick with the chickenpox, IME vomiting is not unusual when a child is running a temperature (which is common in the early stages of CP).

Bettyspaghettis son currently has chickenpox and his started by vomitting. she started a thread asking exactly the same question.

Yes, furball is right. My DS did a one-off really impressive projectile vomit a day or two before his first spot appeared. he was running around playing, vomitted, cried a little bit (as he was shocked I think) and then carried on playing once I'd cleaned him up.

He'd been a bit grumpy the week before but other than that there were no other early signs. He got it from nursery too.

I would expect spots in the next couple of days.

Hope he doesn't get it too badly.
