Bleeding between ovulation and period - normal?

I've always spotted at ovulation, enough to warrant a light pad but nothing more. The last few cycles though I've carried on bleeding between ovulation until my period starts. More than spotting, not heavy but enough to need to wear a pad. But then my actual period has been a bit shorter too. I've not had sex for almost a year but used to bleed after for a day or two.

I'm 45. Is this perhaps connected to the start of the menopause? Or something else?

I'm experiencing this too and am 43.
I'm putting it down to peri menopause although probably should see GP to check they don't want to screen for any other cause (have been thinking that for at least 6 months )

I would get it checked just in case. A smear is an easy enough thing to do and it'll put your mind at ease!

No it's not normal - you need to get checked out.

This is called inter-menstrual bleeding and needs a visit to your GP to makesure there's nothing untoward going on. Probably hormonal though.

That is utter rubbish! It is indeed very normal for some people when you get into your 40s. I'm one of those people, I was sent for a scan, to rule out anything sinister but was told by the Dr that many women experience this.

So OP go to the Dr just to make sure, but it will probably be fine

Should have added this went on for 8 years with me. I'm now 51 and it has stopped as periods are very erratic.

I agree that it needs checking out. It's normal in the sense that it happens often but it's not in the sense that it could be something serious.

Any changes to the menstrual cycle should be reported to the GP. It should be checked out.

Thanks for the replies. I've had problems with my periods my whole life and never had much success in getting heard from my GP - pretty much told to just go on the pill every time.
Still, am due a smear so will bring it up then.
