4-5 poos a day whilst feeding..is this normal?

Hi i'm new and what a joy it is to read your views. You've certainly given me plenty of tips and things to think abt. Can any1 help with my problem. My baby is 8 wks old and since last wed has started to poo 4-5 times a day. The strange thing is he poos whilst feeding (aptamil 1st). Which means I'm having to change his nappy and often his clothes because of it going up his back, half way thro a feed. His stools are yellow and loose. Otherwise he is fine, no vomiting, no fever, generally happy in between feeds. He's having between 26 and 30oz. Shud i b concerned with the frequency of poos? I'm worried he won't b putting on weight cuz feeds r going straight thro him.. Thanks.

I breastfed mine so what I say may not be much use, but my ds used to do exactly that. Nearly always during a feed, always got that tell-tale damp patch on the side of his body where it had squidged right out and over the top of his nappy (nice). It's a pain in the neck, but I don't think it's anything to worry out. I'm sure you'll get more useful advice soon, and welcome

Hi Sandi102, welcome to Mumsnet! there are loads of great people that give the best advice here! it is a godsend if like me you don't know what to expect, I also have an 8 week old DS and he does exactly the same as your little one - including the joys of them going up his back a couple of times - nice. Are you breast feeding? it sounds normal to me but others can confirm that then that would be great! (then we can both feel relieved! )

DD is 4 months and only recently down to 4-5 times a day (but she's bf). The Dr. was unworried when at 2 months she was still pooping at every single feed. She's climbing through the centiles still, so if it's slowing her down it's all for the best!

You might want to try the next larger size of nappies, though, sometimes that helps the blowout problem

Lovely bright yellow poos and lots of them are very normal, right until you introduce other things in the diet. just soak all the clothes in Napisan!
