Has anyone had a saliva gland removed?

I have just been diagnosed with either a blocked saliva gland/duct or a damaged saliva gland. I have to have some tests later this week, but if it is the latter, apparently I will have to have the gland removed. Has anyone had tests which involve injecting dye into a saliva gland - which sounds painful to me, and/or had a saliva gland removed? If so, how painful is it, how long does discomfort last, and are there any other potential side effects I should ask my doctor about?

My ds had to have his moved as he had a drooling problem.
He first had his tonsils removed and a few weeks later the other done.
From what I remember the tonsils were a much sorer operation, and took longer to recover from. We were pleasently surprised at how much easier he found the saliva duct operation. He was 5 at the time.
