I'm thinking this can only be nad news. Has anybody else had this with an implant?

No. I've got two. When did you last have a check up? I have to go every 6 months and the dentist takes an x-ray I think yearly to check all ok. Are you sure? Disclosure: I have no medical knowledge!

There are a few dentists who post on mumsne6 so bump if you don't get a reply.

I had this once and the screw needed tightening. Depends what kind of implant you have, but for me it was a quick 15 min appointment and no big deal.

oh good - I'll cross my fingers and hope that's the case

Yes I've had implants and it's extremely important that the person doing the implant is a specialist not an ordinary dentist who doesn't do them very often.
The most common reason your implant is wobbly is becasue you didn't have enough good quality bone in your jaw to drill it into.
Periodontal disease or infection can eat away at the bone and it's best practise to have either bovine bone injections into the area or in worst cases a sinus lift where human bone from cadavers is packed into the jaw via a surgical incision.
These procedures keep the implant tightly in place and they should last years.
You also need regular hygeinist appointments and at least one yearly checks.
I went to this place who specialise in implants and are brilliant and cheap:
