Uterine ablation and weight gain

Has anyone had uterine ablation and had weight gain after?
I'm due to have this procedure soon and am worried as there seems to be a lot a forums in the USA where women are complaining of unexpected weight gain after, often 3-4 stone and they can't shift it.
I have quite an issue over weight and it would affect my mental health greatly if I were to put on weight.
Of course, GP and Gynaecologist have said there is no connection between this procedure and weight gain!

Anyone?

I have no medical qualifications and no direct experience - but as fibroids and thyroid problems are sometimes linked, could the weight gain be linked to thyroid problems rather than directly linked to the ablation?

I've had an ablation and have had no weight gain at all! I can see how it's linked to be honest. Ablation is just the burning away of the uterine lining.

I've had an ablation years ago. Bit of a gradual creep up of weight but I think it's more middle age spread and too much chocolate. I think most women who have this done are older so over the next few years may find unless they're careful they will put on weight. Easier to blame the ablation than lack of will power. It doesn't affect your hormones so why would it cause weight gain?

I honestly can't see the link either but these women are adamant it's as a direct result of the ablation. Several women have stated they have put on 4 or 5 stone over 6-12 months despite exercising and clean eating etc. How can that be? Surely just having the lining of your womb shed away couldn't cause that, but if you google 'ablation and weight gain' loads of sites come up??!!

I think they're kidding themselves about their eating and exercise habits.

I had a uterine ablation in 2013, and went on to lose 5 stone with a slimming club.

Maybe it's just an American thing!!

I've just had an ablation and sterilisation done 2 weeks ago - I can't comment on weight gain but have around 3st to lose so hoping that it's not a direct side effect! However before the procedure I too saw many mainly US based blogs/FB groups discussing varying degrees of side effects. I decided to take the opinion that I had researched the procedure and also the experience of my gynaecologist, and that he would not be putting his career and reputation on the line for something that he knew would cause further risk to the patient. Some of these US sites talk about the ablation being done in a doctor's office (surgery), I mean WTH!!

It's nonsense surely. There is no reason why having no bleeding should mean weight gain.
I suspect the real reason is that many women have this done in their 40s when their metabolism slows down anyway and weight gain happens unless we adjust our portion size and take up more exercise. Just like women blame the menopause or HRT for weight gain- it's not, it's because they think they can carry on eating what they did in their 20s and 30s, despite being less active and having a slower metabolism.

I just hope that's all true as I'm due to have this done on Tuesday and am not looking forward to it!
