I rolled my ankle 7 weeks ago now. I had an X-ray that showed an avulsion fracture, only small. It was thought that no casting was needed but 7 weeks later it's still the same. Any one have any idea as to why?!

have you rested/elevated it enough when it first happened?
might be worth getting a physio appointment to get the fluid massaged out.

Devonishome1 · 28/05/2017 18:20

That's interesting thank you!

You need to go and see your GP, at 7 weeks I would want another opinion. It could be you have soft tissue damage that isn't healing properly.

Devonishome1 · 28/05/2017 18:39

I have an appointment booked for Thursday.

RICE as much as you can, it looks very uncomfortbale!

Devonishome1 · 28/05/2017 19:03

Yes it is uncomfortable but not too painful, more aches and the odd shooting pain. Just a bit fed up now after so many weeks.

I'd go back to wherever you were seen & ask for a 2nd opinion. It seems unusual that an avulsion fracture wouldn't require a cast.

When is your fracture clinic appointment?

Devonishome1 · 28/05/2017 19:20

They said that it was just a small piece of bone that had come away. I have a GP appointment on Thursday.

RICE
rest
ice
compression
exercise

You're welcome!!

Popskipiekin · 28/05/2017 19:26

....isn't it elevation not exercise for the E?
Looks painful OP! Do do the RICE and hope GP can help you.

Mummysh0rtlegs · 28/05/2017 19:27

Elevation not exercise :)

I am surprised you haven't had a boot or walking cast of some kind?

Devonishome1 · 28/05/2017 19:44

I'm not sure ,he's not been abroad for a long time

I had an avulsion fracture last year from rolling my ankle - the ligaments are stretched so much they pull a small piece of bone away.

It took me nearly a week to go for an x-ray as I thought it was just a really bad sprain. They were going to plaster it but then decided a boot would be enough. I'm amazed that you had neither.

GreatBigPolarBear · 29/05/2017 22:12

For comparison, I did exactly the same thing 5 weeks ago. Again, no cast or boot although I did get myself a brace for the first week or so.
Mine isn't swollen any more but still feels tight and isn't as strong or flexible as the other one.
I've had a few sports therapy and physio sessions.

GreatBigPolarBear · 05/06/2017 21:31

How's it going? I'm so fed up with mine still not being back to normal.
So wish I could turn back the clock!

Thanks, belated ! Pollyanna
