Darker patch of skin on face

A few days ago I noticed that I have a small {pinky fingernail size} patch of darker skin on one side of my face. Dr Google keeps telling me it is Melasma, which happens due to an increase in hormones when either pregnant, on the oral pill or HRT. However it does also say this is normally symmetrical, but I only have it on one side.

I have a Mirena coil fitted although it is due to be replaced soon, I have called and tried to make an appointment for this today, awaiting a call back from the Dr. I am hopefully not pregnant, I did take a test this morning but received no lines, not even the control test one so will try to take another one this afternoon before work. I will also try and get an appointment at my GP for it, but knowing my surgery that's likely to be September 2018

Does anyone know of any non pregnancy related reasons for this?

It can also just be age related and the result of sun damage. I have one exactly as you describe, definitely not been PG since I've had it.

My kids get these, although much larger normally before coming down with a cold. No idea why though, so prob not a very helpful answer.

That actually is helpful isthis ! I currently have a cold, so could be that.

and LaLeague I'm not even 30! If I'm already breaking down due to age now I dread to think what I will look like in 10 years

Well I was only about 38 when I got mine.

Well I'm not ancient (42,) but I've had a small patch like this on the side of my face for years now. It's definitely sun damage and fades during the winter but darkens again in the summer.
