Anal pain

Had a pain in the backside for nearly 4 weeks now although it did subside for 4 days in the middle. GP initially diagnosed it as piles (which I do have, but it's definitely not them) and then we discussed the possibility of a fissure last week. At first I was on pile treatment and now I'm on GTN cream and lidocaine gel. Nothing seems to help the pain, it's only better in the am after I wake up. Once moving around etc it's back. It's in a very definite place just inside the anus and I'm wondering if in fact it could be a abscess rather than a fissure. Totally miserable with this constant pain, please can anyone offer any advice?

If it is a fissure it will hurt all the time, especially after the toilet. I had one 8 years ago. Eat only what you need to and avoid anything to bulk you up. Drink plenty of water. Take stool softeners/movicol and drink prune juice. Take warm baths. Lean away from where the sore bit is when you go to the toilet and get up as soon as you're done.

Best of luck. I'm having surgery for piles on Saturday and wouldn't wish these problems on anybody.
