Hello everyone,

This is the cancer support thread, which has been running for many years under different names. Most posters have breast cancer, but various other cancers are represented too! Whatever cancer you have, feel free to join us. We also welcome those who are awaiting test results to find out whether or not they have cancer. We know how difficult the waiting can be and we are happy to hold your hand. Hopefully you won't need to join us permanently Flowers

Feel free to ask any questions. There will usually be someone who knows the answer or will know where you can find it.

Whatever you do, stay away from Google!

You can post anything you like here. We don't mind swearing or complaining or angry ranting. We aren't brave or inspirational and you don't need to be either. Nobody signed up for this, but we support each other as best we can Star

The previous thread is here

I'm like that too pepper. They laughed at me in A&E the other day for saying thank you after a failed cannulation attempted. I always think it's polite to say thank you as it's not their fault it hasn't worked Confused how are you getting on anyway?

VLCos that sounds promising. Fingers crossed for the CT and biopsy results Flowers I hope you are recovering well from the colonoscopy

Twitter I've had a mortifying flashback. I had a GA a couple of months back just for a scope thing and when I came round I clasped the anaesthetist's hands to my chest and thanked him for keeping me alive BlushBlush I think I held onto his hands for quite a while Confused

I saw the oncologist today. Chemo delayed until next week so I can recover properly from the infection. My CT results are being checked again as the radiologist's report doesnt mention a pulmonary embolism but other doctors have diagnosed one from the images. The tumours are apparently stable but results aren't official until they've been double checked :)

@WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo thanks lovely. Felt a bit rough and sore from colonoscopy . They gave me some fentaly ? Pain relief , didn't have sedation but it made me feel so strange like I was in a nightclub in Ibiza and the machines beeping was the music. Only for a minute was very strange Confused
I have been given a follow up appointment for biopsies and CT scan for August 25th . Seems a long way a way. In everyone's opinion would they not leave it so long of there was something urgent ?
Hope everyone is having a nice day !

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 10/07/2017 20:39

VLCos that'll be fentanyl. It sounds like quite an experience! Grin I hope you are recovering well. Yes, I imagine if there was anything to worry about they'd see you much sooner.

I was told immediately after mine that they'd found lots of polyps and a mass. Then six days later I was given the cancer diagnosis.

OP posts:
VLCos · 10/07/2017 20:55

@WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo it would be 2 months almost since the CT when I go back so presuming that is OK to.
fentanyl that's it. Have you had it ? Wow it's potent . Mixed with gas and air I was high as a kite !
Has your infection eased ?

chewingawasp · 10/07/2017 21:35

Hi all.
Had my scan results today. It has spread and all treatment has now been stopped. I have asked to be referred to the nearby big city hospital but don't know if they will be able to help at all. Looks like the roller coaster has hit the buffers.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 10/07/2017 22:20

Oh fuck fuck fuck chewing Angry

I hope someone at the big hospital has something up their sleeve that can help

Stupid question really, but how are you feeling?

I don't really know what to say to be honest, but I am sending lots and lots of love, and maybe a sneaky hug if the Mumsnet police aren't watching!

OP posts:
WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 10/07/2017 22:37

VLCos sorry missed your post. I'm sure if anything shows up they'd be in touch before then.

I've not had fentanyl before I don't think. I think they used pethidine for me. It didn't work Hmm so I was wiiiiiiide awake!

Yes, my infection has gone thank you :)

I am feeling gutted Leslie. The consultant suggested trying to get on a trial but I already know that it will be nigh on impossible to find something suitable Sad

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 10/07/2017 22:57

Chewing I'm so sorry, I wish there was something helpful I could say.

Just popping in to wave/send Flowers/Cake/Wine to all who need it.

Been a long journey for me so far to get to a stage post baby where I'm deemed healthy enough to have my brain tumour out. Finally had my thyroid is stabilised (appt with consultant today where she basically said my GP could have dealt with it all along... Hmm) and called my waiting list officer this morning who has said she's pencilled me in for my tumour op on 28th... it's been a long 15 months awaiting it so fingers crossed it goes ahead!

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 10/07/2017 23:49

Sorry it was such a silly question chewing I'm not at all surprised you are gutted Sad I would be too. Have you got anyone in real life for support? I hope so.

Your consultant ought to be trying to get you on a trial if he thinks you could, not putting that on you Hmm your hospital sounds useless, frankly. I really hope the other hospital will have someone more proactive on the case!

I doubt you'll get much sleep tonight, but I hope you at least manage to rest a little Flowers

LittleGreyCat I'm glad your thyroid is OK, but that's very frustrating! I imagine your GP is wary of doing anything when you've got a brain tumour. Mine is always very cautious. Fingers crossed your op will go ahead

Goodnight lacies Star

Another delurker (I've borrowed DS's iPad to post). Im sure you already know it, but we are all here for you

chewingawasp · 11/07/2017 22:38

Evening all. Just wanted to thank everyone for the comments on here and messages sent.

Leslie you are right about the hospital. I think that being proactive rather than reactive would have gone a long way. I am speaking to my specialist nurse tomorrow to see what assistance is available. She wasn't at the meeting the other day so I assume the consultant hadn't told her anything as I had to contact her to let her know what was happening Hmm

Hope you are all doing ok Flowers

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 11/07/2017 23:11

FFS Angry that really shouldn't be your responsibility! It is pretty shit that she didn't contact you to offer support. And also that she wasn't at the appointment to support you. I hope she has some helpful suggestions when you speak to her. I'm so sorry that you've been let down so badly by your team.

I am lying in bed listening to the rain. It's very soothing!

Goodnight lacies Star

FlippyNeck · 12/07/2017 22:13

Chewing, I am so very sorry to read your news. Sending you love and hugs and I hope you get the referral quickly.

chewingawasp · 12/07/2017 22:48

Thanks again everybody. We have a lot of lurkers Smile
Has anyone here had lots of chemo? If so how many cycles have you had? I am looking into a few things at the moment so it would be helpful to know how many treatments others have had.
