Funny rash in baby

Hi. My baby is almost 9 months. She's been off colour for a week - cold, pulling at ears etc. On Sunday she had a slight temperature, off her food. She also has a cough - when she does cough sometimes she is sick. Other times doesn't cough for a couple of hours. On Monday she came out in a rash - bit blotchy on her face and tiny pin pricks on her tummy and back. I was convinced she had conjunctivitis as one eye was red and gungy - couldn't make it to GPs as ds2 was off school with a sickness bug. Rash slightly faded and yesterday she looked fine eyes were not so gungy, more runny - until the afternoon when the rash looked brighter again on her forehead. Then she slept all night and the rash has faded a bit this morning - still runny eyes, cough & cold. No temperature.
A friend thought she might have rubella - would the rash come & go like that? My GP is great, but it is only him at the surgery. He is booked up for weeks and I'd hardly class her symptoms an "Emergency" - they only have emergency appointments in the morning .... when she looks better.
I think it is nothing really - my babies have never been ones for rashes so I always panic . The rash is blotchier on her face - pinpricks at the back of her neck, back & tummy. I am always terrified of booking an emergency appointment as I think I'm wasting his time especially when she does not seem that ill in herself.
Any ideas???

I'm no expert, but you've run a glass over blotches to check they disappear under pressure haven't you?

Thanks sunnywong I have done that! Had a meningitis scare when ds2 was 8 days old so we always jump to that one.

My ds had a pin prick rash like you describe a couple of months back and I did take him to the doctor - who said it was just a virus and it would disappear within a week or so. If she is okay in herself she is probably fine I would think!

My dd is prone to viral rashes which are always worrying as they tend to come up quite quickly. She gets them along with a cold/bug most of the time. I'm sure your gp would see you if you're worried though.

ooh, i have a thread on this running, took my dd to the drs to see nurse (they run a triage system for non routine appointments) and wished i hadnt bothered they said viral, i think poss rubella as does hv but apparently its hard to tell and treatments the same (rubella is a virus so it comes under the umbrella).

i wouldnt worry about taking her but keep an eye and if you do get concerned go.

Thanks everyone - I'll wait and see! I think you're all right and it's a nothing rash.
