Is my toe broken?! *pic included*

Pregnancy has made me so clumsy.. amongst other less painful accidents, I epically stubbed my toe about 3 hrs ago. Hurt like a motherfrucker but usually the pain would subside. Not this time! It's gone swollen and bruised and is painful to put any weight on. Is this a bad stub or do you think it could be broken? I know there's no point going to A&E for this kinda thing cos they just put a splint on it anyway so will be hobbling dutifully but would love the opinion of MN.
Finally, the biggest of apologies for my uncut toenails, I am ashamed.

Sorry about your foot. The only way you will know for sure is a trip to a&e. As annoying as it is, that's the only way you'll know for sure. Hope you feel better soon

Can't comment if it's broken but buddy taping it might help keep it bandaged

Thanks for the link tissue, I'll see what's in the first aid box! Thought I'd probs have to tape it up somehow.

user id feel bad going to A&E as I feel like it'd be a waste of their time but you're right, I won't know otherwise.. probs not worth it though right?!

I did that on a chair leg a while ago, my toe went very purple. I didn't do anything about it and it has healed but feels stiff and a bit different. On reflection I think I probably broke it, same toe too.

WowserBowser · 07/05/2017 19:45

I did the same thing whilst pregnant! Oh it hurt.

I did the buddy thing. One of the toes went black but i think it only properly hurt for a couple of days.

KoolKoala07 · 07/05/2017 19:50

It's most probably badly bruised although I'm not medically trained. I wouldnt bother with a & e i feel it would be a waste of everyone's time. I once (after quite a few drinks) fell over and really hurt my toe, couldn't walk on it the morning after. After a couple of days though it was on the mend.

LemonsAndLollies · 07/05/2017 19:53

If it's broken all A&E would do is buddy-tape it anyhow. I broke a toe when out with my best friend and her mum INSISTED on going to the urgent care. They x-rayed it and said yep, it's broken, you did the right thing taping it up, here's some extra-strength ibuprofen.

Whilst building DDs wardrobe a few years back at seven months pregnant I dropped one wooden side of the wardrobe on the exact same toe you've injured. Was the corner of the wood panel too and was bloody excruciating. Nasty bruising, swelling and pain that lasted about a month.
I didn't visit A&E rather saw my GP after 10 days to get their opinion. There is very little to be done for a toe break or injury; elevate, cold compress, pain relief and possible taping to neighbouring toe.
I hope it heals soon for you OP

Thanks everyone, currently have it raised and am ordering DP around to do my bidding too (silver linings and all that). I don't have the right kind of tape to strap it so I'm going to try and use bits of plaster and hopefully that'll do the trick.

The stool I have my foot on just tipped over and I stupidly went to grip on to it to steady it with my stubbed foot. Curling my toes = pain, why did my brain forget that?!

And don't worry, won't be heading to A&E as I know it's a waste of everyone's time. Glad to know I'm not the only pregnant clutz though!

I did the same to my toe a few years ago and it looked just like that. I didn't go to A and E and it just gradually got better, it took a couple of weeks iirc and don't be surprised if the bruising travels up your foot and your foot swells a bit, mine did. It's so painful isn't it and I wasn't pregnant, just walked into chair leg.

AnneBiscuit · 12/05/2017 22:07

That's looks painful. I once kicked a stone step (accidentally) and my toe hurt like hell. I made a little splint with 2 matches and strapped it up for a while. It healed very well.
