Please help : Raised CRP levels in 2 blood tests

hello i have health anxiety and a couple of months ago i had a cold and some blood
in my phlegm (not coughing it up) i had chest x ray all was
fine and bloods where crp was 7 (should be less than 5) and neutrophils were raised too. No repeats a were given just some antibiotics and symptoms went away . last week
i went to doctor to ask to go back
on my anxiety medication and while there i mentioned for 3 weeks i had been getting night sweats so she felt my glands and said let's repeat the blood test from 2 months ago! They came back and white blood cells back to normal but crp is still 7 and i am
beside myself with worry and she wants to repeat in 4-6 weeks! from what i have read if levels don't drop because there has been an infection it can be a sign of cancer. i'm not sleeping or eating with worry . is someone able
to help? 2 years ago my crp was only 1

I really wouldn't worry, 7 is basically normal. I wouldn't be worried until several times that.

As a guide, mine was about 420 immediately before I went in for an emergency ileostomy. 7 is only very, very slightly raised. Consultant is happy if mine is under 10.

7 is really truly nothing to worry about.

It is within the statistical margin of natural variation - approx 5% of the population will fall outwith the 'normal' ranges set by labs (which varies btw, 'normal' CRP here is 6).

If you were acutely unwell your CRP may rise to several hundreds and that would be significant.

Raised neutrophils (those of your white blood cells that respond to bacterial infection) simply suggests a healthy, functioning immune system, doing what it is designed to do.

I think your anxiety is likely affecting your health currently more than your CRP - address that would be my advice.

Normal reference ranges are generally what 95% of the population will fall in.... 2.5% of people will have their 'normal' below and 2.5% of people will have their 'normal' above. 7 might be your 'normal'.

Did you decide to go back on anxiety medication? Have you been through any talking therapy to help you with it?

my normal was a level of 1 in 2015 so that's why i am so worried and so worried even more it is the same 2
months later and also have night sweats for 3 weeks now, which is also worrying me. i have just started on meds for anxiety today too.

Not sure how old you are. Could the night sweats be menopausal? Or TB?

i am 43 so possible , altho had a baby 9'months ago. has anyone else had repeats of crp and it stayed elevated? all
i am reading is people having repeat blood tests and it's returned to normal which mine hasn't and panics
me more, is that's even possible. i'm literally sat here in tears

Honestly, I wouldn't even be repeating it at that level, it's normal for all intents and purposes. Agree that your anxiety is likely to be the issue here.

Bubble I have this. My CRP is permanently slightly raised. Like the last seven tests over the course of three or four years. I can't remember the number but it's always out of range - not hugely but always. I'm just made that way. Dr says it is of no consequence.

Crp measures inflammation and infection rates. 7 is barely raised but as your glands are slightly raised and all other markers are normal then antibiotics are appropriate as I suspect it's the tail end of a viral infection.
Nothing to worry about op. Seriously.

thank you but would it still be raised 2
months later even tho white cells returned to normal? no raised glands and all
other counts in normal range.

yes anxiety is massive issue and i am trying to address
it with medication now. i just cant find anyone that had repeats and crp was still raised so frightening me

It's really not raised. It's just different to the last measurement you have. But by a really tiny amount. So a bit like checking your bank balance and expecting it to be around £5 overdrawn and actually it's £7. But you don't actually need to worry unless it's £150 overdrawn.

If it's any comfort I had night sweats for about a year after having my DC ( I blamed hormones) and also horrible health anxiety. I really feel for you. Sleep deprivation triggers my HA so having a baby made it quite bad! I'm really sorry you're suffering with it.

I worried because my esr was high. Then I saw another doctor who said "yes it is moderately high but it has been at every blood test since you were 17 (more than half my life) and if it were a problem you'd be dead by now" not exactly tactful but comforting nevertheless

you for all your nice comments. I really wish they weren't retesting as it's scares
me with my health anxiety and it's so bad at the moment which is why i have had to make the hard decision to go
back on medication. what other tests did
u have to have hunky dory? I can't bear tests, they cause me so much anxiety, well
waiting for results. and having to wait now for 6 weeks
i don't know what i'm going to do as
i'll
panic it won't have gone down or gone up and then get sent for more tests. so
this wouldn't be a signal for cancer?

is helping a bit. I just know it's not my normal level and just wish it had come back to my normal
level on the repeat :(

Bubble, I can hear how stressed you are. I suffer from anxiety, and have had lots of relief from EFT , Google EFT for anxiety, that's Lloyd on you tube, and you can feel the benefits straight away.
It seems woo, but when you feel the anxiety begin to flood out of you, you don't care!
