Second colposcopy

I had a colposcopy last year, cin1 changes, I was told to have a repeat smear in 12 months. I got my results last week that I have abnormal cells again and have received my appointment for a colposcopy next week.

Am I being really silly to be absolutely terrified? They said last year if my smear came back abnormal again then I'd need a colposcopy and in all likelihood further treatment. I don't remember what the further treatment was.

I know logically that cell changes don't mean I have cancer but it's there in the back of my head. Please reassure me that two colposcopy s in 12 months isn't that unusual.

It's not that unusual.
It happened to me & once it did I found out that a lot of people I knew had experienced the same thing, I had 2x lots of treatment in 2007 & 2008 & havrnt required any further treatment. I'm back having smear tests every 3 years & have just had my first baby.

Be positive Smile

I know this scenario is so so scary, but CIN I is soooooo far from being cancer it's not even worth getting anxious about. By leaving it for a year they were hoping the cells would revert back to normal. They haven't (common scenario) so you may need to have some removed. Please try not to worry. I had CIN 3 and was petrified because the NHS brochure screams CANCER! At my colposcopy the consultant was totally blasé and and never even mentioned the word.

Thank you both. I've got really bad anxiety which isn't helping. I'm trying to think positively as last year was not as bad as I expected. Dh has booked the day off work to take me which was lovely of him.

Hi Songbirds, just want to echo what previous posters have said - CIN1 is really nowhere at all near to being cancer, and even if left untreated, would likely never become cancer. They'll probably do a biopsy for you and then possibly refer for LLETZ - both nothing to be worried about at all. Smile

Thank you thierry

I feel much calmer now. I'm still worrying but not as frightened. I do tend to over think things and stress too much.

I have hpv. I had cin 1 last year and had a follow up smear the year after. I'm still showing a normal cells but no hpv. I have a follow up in October. It's normal.. more than 80% of women have an abnormal smear in their lifetime. Some may have hpv but will never know. Just eat correctly cut down alchohol and you should be a ok x

Thank you. I tested positive for HPV last year too. My colposcopy is on Thursday, I just want it over and done with now.

I'm never bothered about the colop just if they have to do a.biopsy. Although I'm weird I watched them do everything without flinching. May have something to do with my job. The nurse looked at me in awe. I want my followup now.

SongBirdsKeepSinging · 05/05/2017 03:38

I had silent tears streaming down my face last year, the nurse near my head had to wipe my face. Very embarrassing. Blush

No need to be embarrassed everyone deals with things differently. To be honest this hasn't helped my depression. But hey ho I will beat it

SongBirdsKeepSinging · 05/05/2017 03:42

It is definitely effecting my depression too. Like you say can't let it win though.

I have a few other factors that won't go away unfortunatly. I need to be in work at 7 and my depression means I don't sleep. Yeye

SongBirdsKeepSinging · 05/05/2017 03:57

It's a viscous cycle for me, up all night, sleep during the day, can't get to sleep on a night and repeat forever more.
