My hair has suddenly decided to fall out like crazy 3 months after giving birth. Is this normal??

Yes.

WanderingTrolley1 · 27/04/2017 10:10

I haven't stopped shedding and it's 4 years later...

marabounuts · 27/04/2017 13:08

yes. lasted a good 3-4 months. started also about 3 months pp

MichaelSheensNextDW · 27/04/2017 13:38

WanderingTrolley1 that's abnormal, you probably have ferritin deficiency anaemia.

gobbin · 27/04/2017 18:22

Yes, It's called telogen effluvium. This happened to me after big ops and it took about 6months to come back.

WanderingTrolley1 · 27/04/2017 21:03

Michael, all my blood tests have come back as normal - they're repeated every so often.

momoh · 27/04/2017 21:08

@gobbin are there no supplements I can take to stop it from falling?

As Michael said it might be worth having your iron/ferritin checked too - my hair also falls out when low (I have iron infusions every 8 wks for bowel disease). You can imagine what it looked like after the ops plus low iron, could see more skin than hair 😱

Much better now though. It's common after pregnancy so don't panic.

mycavitiesareempty · 27/04/2017 22:59

Yes yes to iron levels. Mine started falling out and this turned out to be the cause.

I felt largely fine in other respects apart from killer periods.

Ohyesiam · 27/04/2017 23:25

It's just that hair stops falling out when you as are pregnant, then it really sheds the back log when for baby arrives.

Sunshineandlaughter · 28/04/2017 02:55

Yes

Sadly it's normal. I was completely bald on the left side of my head after my last baby. It was really awful!
