What's this weird patch? Is it <gasp> old age?

So this appeared over the last few days, should I be worried?

Is it slightly raised and dry or scaley? I had a fungal infection (ringworm) that looked quite like that.

It is but it's not doing anything, not spreading etc

My guess is ringworm or eczema. Get it checked.

Is it really itchy? It looks like ringworm, I had it on my leg when I was pregnant and my god I wanted to scratch my leg off.

Nope not itchy. I suspect it's going to be something depressing like an age spot

Oh no, poor you! On my arm. Started as an itchy patch and now just a raised coloured patch. Kids all had ringworm, doesn't look like that and it's not changed or spread

Discoid eczema but I can't open the pic. My ringworm didn't itch.

It's looks like the eczema I get. I had never had any allergies or eczema until I was 35 now I get patches like that all the time and am allergic to so many toiletries including my beloved gel nail polish.

Have a Google at Pityriasis Rosea.
The doctor first thought mine was ringworm, but it turned out to be PR.

Ok enough doubt to get it checked. Mum gets skin cancer every so often and has a history of it so I guess I need to check stuff like this.

You could get a tube of anti fungal cream (Daktarin) at the chemist over the weekend. If it's ringworm that'll probably take care of it. Age spots don't appear in a few days, nor does skin cancer.

Mini update chemist thinks it isn't anything like ringworm but has given me a tube of hydrocortisone to try but maybe run past GP.
I want it to go before the Summer!!

I get seborrhic kerotoses which are like... peel off age spots or moles. Harmless but kind of ugly. Grow, scale, itch, peel off, reappear several yrs later. Skin does weird things as you get older.

I spot them on women age 40+ all the time, now. Many are just a patch of different skin.
I have 2 or 3 regulars that pop up every... ? 3-4 yrs.
First one appeared in my early 30s. Unhelpfully on my face!

Mine come out of nowhere, grow fast, slow down. I guess maybe 3 months from appearance to flaking off.

I got my 1st one so long ago it never crossed my mind to worry about it. I kind of know the rules now what is SK and what would be rather different. You could chat to a GP. They probably won't be experts but can refer you to a dermatologist. There are other types of skin growths to worry about and others that are harmless. Probably a lot more harmless than bad. But it takes a while to remember the rules to tell them all apart.

One thing about SK is it never appears like an infection or a sore. It's really superficially sitting on the skin. My relatives who have had ... (I think it's basal carcinoma? The one that is only just barely bad news because it can be bad but actually almost none of them ever do progress) those thing went deep into the skin. My SK patches will bleed like buggery if I try to peel it off early, but they don't go into the skin, that I can tell, they peel off very cleanly.

Anyway, most MNers would tell you just go see the GP.

It's on my arm. The photo shows it slightly raised. It definitely won't peel (ow!) . My family history is melanoma, basal carcinoma and squameous cells and then various cancers. So people either dead or with skin stuff. I have never had any, it's my siblings and parents and then wider family.

However this looks hopefully like a flat pale Sebb thing...

That's a lot of family history. I have 14 aunts-uncles + 30 1st cousins, so what happens to them just feels like random chance, not that close.

Something that comes up that big that fast seems like infection, not cells gone funny.
