I'm in agony! Anyone know of anything that helps?

Heated wheat pad or hot water bottle at the base of your spine. Failing that, a hot bath.

Yoga poses for sciatica on YouTube - I use yoga with Adrienne.

Yoga! I thought of that but seeing as I can no longer touch my toes without screaming... it's been weeks. I saw the GP, who put me on a muscle relaxant and Celebrex, which haven't helped. Lying on my back is the least painful but I'm getting fat and indolent. Also hellishly bored.

Maybe have a search through some vids if you want to try yoga for it- the poses that I find most helpful for sciatic pain are all done lying on your back.

The other thing that I tried in desperation once is acupuncture and it really helped a lot.

Laying, sitting or standing still seems to be the worst for me. I do that stretch where you put your foot on the opposite knee and sit back kind of squatting. It's sore but the stretch feels good.

Huge sympathies. It's so grim.

HNY2017 · 24/04/2017 22:42

Moving around helped me but clearly this isn't always an option.

I had a tens machine and used tiger balm when I was suffering badly. Best to have bath / shower before applying the balm.
Was also told by my doc not to sit longer than 20 mins at a time. You have my sympathy, it's horrible. And do take your pain killers at a regular interval

diodati · 25/04/2017 09:34

Thanks, will give it a go. I have some tiger balm at least!

I had awful sciatica. The worse pain imaginable. I tried everything
Naproxen, diclofenic codeine, muscle relaxers, nerve blockers, yoga, physio, sports massage, resting it, exercising it. Nothing worked

I had 9 days of diazepam and it worked. I feel like a new woman. To be pain free after 8 months of sciatica is amazing.

I exercise all the time but Ive added in yoga to give me a good stretch out to help prevent it reoccurring

Diazempam is valium, I think? Unfortunately, valium makes me feel depressed. I guess I could try another tranquiliser, like xanax. If I can get a prescription for it...

Another thing is laying on the floor with a tennis ball under your bum cheek, then leaning on it and rolling it around.

diodati · 26/04/2017 22:30

I will locate a tennis ball asap!
