Back and abdominal pain 6 months postpartum

Hi, has anyone experienced lower back pain with pelvic abdominal pain like cramps 6 months after giving birth?. My GP has tested for everything and all come back negative. She thinks it's my body still settling down after birth. I've bottle fed from 1 month and had 3 periods since but can't seem to get rid of these aches. Aches is a better word, pain is child birth!(which was a quick 2 hr natural labour). I've had health anxiety as my mum passed away from cancer a couple of years ago and googling these symptoms has not helped!! Just wondering how long it took for everyone's aches and pains to go away. The back pain might be muscular and I've just jumped to worse case scenario 🙈

I'm six months post partum too and I have low back pain. Sometimes pelvic, sometimes legs too. I saw an osteopath and she said my pelvis is out of alignment.

This was a couple of months ago. She adjusted it and it felt good but she did say it wouldn't stay in like that as I had just stopped breastfeeding and the relaxin hormone would still be in my system.

I think generally the relaxin hormone can take a while for everything to settle. She told me to come back in a couple of months and have it adjusted again.

P.s I also have health anxiety. It is being managed just now but post natally was severe again. I still think I have a particular terminal illness even though I've seen specialists and bad negative test results. I'm going for a second opinion in may. Have had HA for past 6.5 years. So I understand how your mind can jump from zero to 100 in seconds.xx

Mine feels like a mix of period cramping from and back plus some upset tummy upset sometimes. It's worrying me that there might be serious problems!

What type of cancer did your mum die from? I'm really sorry to hear that btw

Could it be lower back pain from carrying your child? Do you often carry them around/push a pram at an uncomfortable height?

So I thought I would update this as so many people ask for help and then never come back with the outcome. So I went back to work, pain continued, got fed up with worrying and went for a private scan as i was driving myself mad that i had ovarian cancer. Scan showed that I had a 4cm cyst in right ovary which they thought was Dermoid (not life threatening but could need removing plus always trust your gut feeling). So i took my findings to the GP who then fast tracked me on a 2 week waiting (which although that meant suspected c word I was happy I was in the system). Had an MRI scan which showed that it wasn't dermoid, looked like a normal 4cm cyst....but could be in the tube which wasn't good. So I then had another ultrasound scan at the hospital, which the nurse felt happy was just a cyst and wasn't in the tubes. Phew. They then offered to do an op to have a look and make sure which I had to turn down as I was running my own business and couldn't take the time off. Fast forward to 2018 and I got another private ultrasound scan - it keeps my brain demons at bay. The cyst was still there and was still 4cm which they think means it might be a dermoid after all. FFS!. I'm now still waiting to hear what they want to do. I guess the message is, always get things checked out. Don't rely on advice on here, your circumstances will always be unique. Don't be scared and trust you gut. Thinking back - I'd just had a baby, i'd pushed so hard she came out in 2 hours. My muscles and pelvis and everything else were probably still in shock! I don't think the cyst was causing that pain as it would be a constant thing and it's not. Hope this helps someone.

I'm having these pains too and I also have health anxiety lol

I'm 3 months postpartum. Had terrible obg throughout my whole pregnancy. Since giving birth I've been left with sore hips etc and I sometimes get these pains in my stomach. It actually feels like a contracting pain. The same feeling I had when my uterus was contracting. I've had normal periods, no issues, but occasionally have these pains in my stomach. Starting to get really worried. Might need to go to the gp to be fobbed off again

Mort123, your post is the only one I found on google that is similar to how i've been feeling in the last few days. I am 5 and half months postpartum and breastfeeding. all of a sudden started having lower back pain, not constant, but only when moving in s certain way or relaxing in bed. I thought i had pulled a muscle by lifting the now heavy baby. After a day or two of that, i started having bad cramp pain, which was weird because im not expecting my period yet ( breastfeeding) . After reading your post im thinking of getting my insurance back and starting to check it out. How old are you, if you dont mind? Also, have you had any updates? Im not understanding, if it was a cyst, were they going to cut it out or was it not that urgent ?
Thanks for your posts.

Thank you so much for posting an update. It’s 3am and worried about postpartum pain from my five month old that I can’t seem to shake and seems worse tonight. It’s so helpful to hear the different possibilities because you are right, googling is way too scary!

Hi! Hoping you got your diagnosis. It sounds similar to what I had: gallstones.

Thank you for posting this. I’m 40, 6 months postpartum and I feel like I have constant period-like cramps, warming feeling in ovary area, some bloating, pelvic pain and nausea (could be anxiety related). I bottle formula fed, I’ve gotten regular periods about 3 times so far. I’m having insane health anxiety thinking I have ovarian C... I can sleep I can’t function. This is giving me some hope, instead of thinking of the worst possible thing

Hello, What was everyone's outcome for this?
Baby is 5 months and I'm week 2 of crampy belly, bloated belly and soar lower back, originally thought it was period starting, I'm still breastfeeding as I am generally just not feeling the best, not unwell, when this never happened I done a urine test, came back clear dr suggested ovaries shedding?

I'm so glad I saw this post. I came to post about a similar problem im having. 5 months postpartum and for the last 3 weeks or so I feel nauseous every night (not pregnant) and I have this shooting pain in my lower right side that comes and goes when I move in certain positions. I was scared it could be my appendix and that I'd need it removed - Google always scares me! I thought it was period related but my period has come and gone and the pain is still there

I went to gyno today, but didn’t get answers. I was telling her my symptoms and the tests I’ve already done to rule out digestive issues. But she was focused on that the cramps were from my bowels. My stomach was cramping as she was pushing and checking me. She gave me a pap (results take 7-10 days) and told me to come back in 2 weeks for sonogram. Having so much anxiety, I can’t function.

Hi all, I am also five months (nearly six) post birth and for the past 5 days have had lower pelvic and back aching as well as lots of gas/trapped wind. My stomach feels really sensitive and I feel a bit nauseous.
I used to get like this during ovulation and pms so think it might be my periods attempting to start up even though I am still breastfeeding. I just feel generally rubbish but not really ill if you see what I mean.

I have been having stomach cramps on and off for the past 2 weeks or so. It feels like period cramps. I’m 6 months postpartum and have had a few periods but missed March’s. I’m hoping these cramps are just telling me I’ll get my period soon but who knows. I’m going to the OB in a week or two

Thank god I found this thread. I was going insane. My anxiety is at an all time high with this cramping/bloating. I’m going to contact my doctor today. Will try to update when I find anything else out.

Hi! I’m currently 8 months postpartum. I normally have abdominal cramping since giving birth. I regularly get my period and have been bottle feeding. The cramping had been getting better aside from the last few days. Which it’s been extremely painful like a stabbing pain and now it is occurring in my back as well. Reading all the comments I’m thinking I should contact my gyn to get checked!

So glad I’ve come across all you ladies going through the same thing as myself!
So I’m just over 5 months postpartum and for the last couple of weeks I’ve had a constant ache in my lower back and as if my period is about to start but nothing happens, probably because I’m still exclusively breastfeeding.

I had BV about a week ago I had treatment to for and that’s cleared up and I thought the pain was related to that but it’s still here!

Not sure if health anxiety or generally just being a new Mum with another three year old running around is what’s making me constantly knackered! I’m on iron tablets due to being low but still- makes no difference. Why is it so hard being a woman/Mum?! 🙈
Did any one have any outcomes from this? Would love to hear what everyone else did with this! X
