For the last few months, I have developed rough, red spots on my cheeks and round my nose. I thought maybe it was due to overindulgence in chocolate (life's been tough), so I more or less gave it up for 8 weeks. Spots got a bit better, but not much.

Any suggstions? I look like I have a red nose all the time. Argh.

I used to have quite nice skin.

It sounds similar to rosacea which I have.

Does it get worse with extremes of temperature and also with ...ahem...alcohol?

Fiona365 · 08/03/2007 12:50

I was wondering about the alcohol thing, actually... but am not in a happy enough place to try giving it up to see.

Not sure about temperatures. It hasn't been overly cold or hot for me to judge.

Any advice Miss P? Do you use/do anything?!

I've suffered with this for about four years now. I was on a prescription gel for a while (can't remember the name I'm afraid) and it did calm down the flushed feeling I used to get but didn't get rid of the spots and flushing entirely and made my skin quite dry. About a year ago I stopped using it and started using Dr Hauschka Rose Day cream as my moisturiser which made a huge difference and really calmed my skin down. So I now use the cleanser as well. I can't say it's cleared it up completely but it's a lot better than it was and if I remember to use the cleansing mask regularly (which I often don't) that makes a big difference too. Only problem is Dr H is expensive . Alcohol definitely makes mine worse, but having conducted extensive research red wine doesn't make it flare up as badly as white does! The sun also makes it worse so I avoid too much direct sunlight on my face and use Dr H sunscreen in summer.

Red wine it is then! If I find myself a bit more flush with cash than I currently am, I'll get some of the Dr H cream.

thanks for your help.
