Using norethisterone to delay period.

We are going on holiday in a couple of months. My DD 13 will be due to get her period. She had it the last time we went on holiday. She gets bad tummy ache with it, and it's generally annoying for her to deal with instead of being care free by the pool like she should be. I have been looking at norethisterone as a way to delay her period for a few days. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with this medication?

Works great. Whether they would prescribe it for a 13 year old I don't know.

I was prescribed it around 13/14 and didn't have a problem with it Smile

I did this last year, I had to take it 3 times a day. When my period came after the holiday it was heavier than normal. It worked though, you just have to really remember to take it at the right times.

My 14 year old was prescribed this when we went on a beach holiday. She doesn't use tampons yet so swimming would have been tricky. It worked a treat although her period was heavier and more painful than usual but she thought it was well worth it. We would do the same again if she wanted to. Smile

It does work but when you stop taking it the period is extra-heavy.

Thanks all for your replies. We'll make a doc appointment and see what they say.

We got it for our 12 year old and it worked fine, same reason for a holiday. Another dr wouldn't prescribe it for my friends daughter. You may have to insist depending on your dr.

It doesn't suit everyone. I had an awful experience on it last year. Had insomnia and severe pmt for entire holiday and when i eventually got my period it lasted 3 weeks. I'd be very wary of mucking around with my hormones again.
