Anyone have an idea what this could be?

My DH had his appendix out approx 10 years ago now

It had burst and when he finally went to a n e, the doc said he was about 30 minutes from not making it! Thank fully he did! Anyway....... he was in hospital for a while and got a major infection on the site and had to have it open but stuffed with cotton wool type gauze and changed often.

His belly button had also become an outie and an innie if that makes sense? and very large (top bit of the outie is around a 2pence size.

Every so often since the op he gets really bad stomach pain and his belly button goes rock solid! He is very stubborn and has only been to the docs a few times since!

He hasn't had much luck when he has been and they have said to come back when he has pain.....
he is going this week as it's been really bad today but I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on what could be causing this?

(Sorry if it doesn't make sense although I hope it does)

I wonder if it's an umbilical hernia ?

3boys3dogshelp · 26/03/2017 22:34

It sounds like a hernia - if his muscle didn't heal together properly after his op. He needs to get it checked if it changes in size and it's painful as a piece of intestine could slip into it and 'strangulate' ie cut off the blood supply to itself which is really serious.

Could it be adhesions??

MajorClanger123 · 28/03/2017 12:14

Hernia or adhesions - my DD had massive / major bowel surgery as a baby and we were told she is now at risk of adhesions (internal scar tissue that connects bits of tissue together that wouldn't normally be connected). She has had to have keyhole surgery since in order to sort out one occurence of adhesions. However, her symptoms weren't only just tummy pain - she was vomiting green matter (which we were told is never good news - means a blockage has occurred in her bowels).

Thanks all for the replies! I have made him a docs app for this week and hopefully they can refer him somewhere! I've told him hernia or adhesions (I have said previously I thought it might be scar tissue)

Hopefully he gets it sorted soon!
