Recurrent/constant conjunctivitis

I had awful conjunctivitis approx 8 weeks ago; green discharge, swollen eye lids/cheek, itching and crusting eyes it was hideous. I had eye drops and ointment prescribed by GP which I thought had cleared it all up after 2full weeks.
In reality it hasn't fully cleared up. Still can't wear make up and eyes still dry and still crusty/itchy and bright red.
How the hell can I get rid of it once and for all? I've chucked all eye makeup and haven't worn since I first got it, only use a face cloth once then it's boil washed, with the pillow cases, wash hands meticulously. I'm so sick of it.

Do you clean your phone/laptop/mouse regularly? They get really filthy.

Chesterfuckingdraws · 24/03/2017 23:09

Yeah, I forgot to mention them. Phone gets wiped with antibacterial wipes as do all my door handles/things I think I'm touching regularly. Computers are only used at work but I do wipe them over with specialist cleaning wipes we have, along with the phones.

How often are you cleaning your eye?
The advice I was given for my dd is to clean with cooled boiled water that has some salt through it.
When it's bad clean every hour like clockwork whether it's gunky or not until I get a few hours of no discharge.

Seems to work.

Could it be allergic conjunctivitis? I now get this every time I wear eye make-up or certain creams. It started after I used a Liz Earle moisturiser a couple of years ago

Chesterfuckingdraws · 25/03/2017 10:39

I'm only cleaning my eye when it is gunky so maybe I should do it more often.
Oh I hope it's not allergy based, I'm desperate to wear mascara again. I'll try taking antihistamines for a bit too, see if that helps.
Woke up to my eyes glued shut again and my eyes are like sandpaper, so frustrating.

There are two types, viral and bacterial. You need to make sure you're treating the correct one correctly.

Is it now blepharitis rather than conjunctivitis?

Gritty eyes and eyelids stuck down sounds more like blepharitis. It recurs, makes your eys dry and the main treatment is eye baths and possibly drops for dry eyes.

I don't think think it's blepharitis, doesn't really look like the pictures and my eyeball is red too.
It's definitely bacterial (confirmed this morning by optometrist) who just advised using the drops and continuing as normal. It's just so frustrating. I woke up this morning with a very blocked nose and a sore throat which she thinks could be connected and advised going back to the gp on Monday.
