Help! - advice on 8 week old baby with cough and cold......

Mrs Snot here, writing from snotsville. All of the family are streaming with cold and both children (2yo and 8 weeks old) are miserable with it, not sleeping very well and coughing like old men
Whilst calpol is a godsend for my 2yo I am reluctant to give the baby any (although she is a good size). Does anyone have any tips - especially to ease the congestion at night and help her sleep?? - Also she is due to have her first lot of immunisations today, should I still take her for them or should i wait til she's shifted the cold?

hi - can't help with the immunisation i'm afraid but when my dd had same i called nhs direct and they advised to raise top end of cot (we put legs on telephone directories) which helps to clear congestion at night (better than lying flat), also used baby karvol or olbas on her grobag, if heating was on put bowl of water on radiator to stop the air drying out too much. Used saline drops in her nose which you can buy in any chemist plus bougth one of those things you suck snot out with but never used it! If she was really bad we did use baby nurofen or calpol. Hope that helps - maybe someone else will knwo about the imms?
