11 month old dd, bad tummy bug, advice please!

DD1 has had a bad sicky bug and now dd2 has got it, i dont realy know what to do because they have never had anything before. Dd2 has been being sick non stop for the past 2 hours and is now throughing up yellow mucus (sorry if TMI) i have just given her a tiny amount of water and she is tossing and turning in her cot trying to get to sleep and retching at the same time.

Am i doing all i can by giving her small amounts of water?

Can i do anything else for her?

If she does'nt keep any water down should i call the doctor?

Sorry if i sound stupid, seeing my baby this ill is upseting, i want to make her feel better and get her to sleep

I alwasys find giving water, just makes them sick more. If it is a bug, DD will throw up until noting left.

Make sure her temperature is down and that she is not sick lying down in her cot. Can she sleep in one of those baby chairs for abit, if you have one?

dd ( 11 mths) has just had one of these - she got to the retching/throwing up phlegm stage too (indeed, so did I when I got it 2 days later ) We worked on the policy of little sips of water, but she sicked most of it up - if it continues, you can try dioralyte as well (or flat coke/lemonade, which is apparently pretty much the same) Ours was only really 12 hours of sickness (overnight) - none of us slept much that night (I had her in with us so we could keep an eye on her)

We did half strength milk for a day or so afterwards (as recommended to us in hospital when ds got gastroenteritus)

I don't think you need to worry over about 12 hour period ... but if you're worried, NHS Direct will be helpful...

I know exactly how u feel marne, you have my sympathies, its rough going. The yellow mucus is bile from her stomach so having a little water will just help her to not pull her stomach muscles too much. My dd2 6mths just had this last weekend .All good advice here. Just watch her fontanel , make sure her tongue is moist and she has wet nappies. I was told it will take a week to get over and in some cases moves on to diarrhea, sorry to say, just letting you know encase that happens and you worry more.

I had an all night vigil with her on a makeshift bed next to me for the night, so i could hold her up when she needed to retch , it took her a few days to start lifting the amount of milk she had , but today shes started drinking lots again.

Ive just managed to get her to sleep but she's not keeping any water down, ive given her a pillow so she is proped up slightly. I think i will try and get some sleep before she wakes again, dd1 was sick for 3 days and has just got over it, looks like i'm in for a bad week.

Hi, bit of an update, dd was sick was last sick at 3am but is still unwell, shes not realy drinking much and has been asleep most of the day. She also feels very hot and has very cold/blue feet.

Is she just sleeping it of?
Should i be worried about her fluid intake?

How things today marne , does she seem slowly coming back ? I hummed and harred for ages wi9th dd2 after this bug , I took her on thurs and go didnt seem that fussed. As long as shes taking something , wet nappies , crying tears , wet tongue. She may very well have a lower fontanel , but that alone doesnt point to dehydration , I think they need to present several.

Marne - how is your dd? Other than the signs of dehydration already mentioned, check if her skin is elastic if you pinch it, ie. springs back, or whether it's wrinkly and takes a while to go back into place.

TBH, if she's not keeping any fluid down, I would certainly call NHS Direct at the very least and let them go through the signs of dehydration with you. Despite them being cr*p at reassuring you when you don't need to worry, they seem to be quite good at telling you when you do need to worry, if you see what I mean. If there is cause for worry, I should think they'll tell you to take her to A&E.
