High blood pressure before surgery

I am due to have surgery on the 24th March to remove some horribly painful endo. However at my pre op today my blood pressure was to high over several readings and I was told that surgery might not be able to go ahead. Bp was about 160/110. They have asked me to go back next week to check again but said lower number needs to be under 100. I will make a gp appointment asap but I am terrified I won't be able to have my op. I've been waiting so long for this, it will improve my life dramatically. Is there anything I can do to reduce my boy in a week?

Get yourself a home BP measuring thing from boots. Do serial measurements and write them down. Its likely that your blood pressure will be much lower at home than in the hospital. 'white coat syndrome'

I think the best thing you can do is see your GP to discuss whether they need to start you on medication to lower your BP before your surgery. I'm not sure there is anything you can do to lower your blood pressure other than the usual things of reducing the amount of salt and fat in your diet, taking regular exercise, etc. Were you anxious about the appointment as this may have raised your BP. Try not to worry about it (easier said than done) as this will make things worse. I'm sure your GP will be able to reassure you. Good luck.
