Chicken pox in 15 wk old dd

My little 15 wk old DD has go chicken pox.Covered in it on her front and face so far.B/F for 3/12 but now on formula.Thought this would be very young for c.pox?? HAs been confirmed by hospital.No idea where she has got it from.Not sure what to do with her.given some calpol and using calamine lotion.Needless to say not a happy bunny.ANy ideas?? Can I use piriton? Or is she too young

Hi, DD2 had chickenpox at 16 weeks (caught from DD1). Try Calamine lotion - over the counter - put all over her with cotton wool pads which will help stop the itching. 100% cotton clothing will help as well, and I found DD2 liked a gentle scratch between the spots (i.e. not scratching directly, but lightly around the area). I was still b/f DD2 when she caught it, I thought that would make her immune but it didn't, so don't worry about bottle or b/f if that is on your mind. HTH

shauna72 my DS had chicken pox at 14 weeks. My Dr prescribed Piriton and it was the one that said on the bottle not for under 1 year. I then double checked it with Dr and they said it was fine. Can't remember what dosage he had. I would suggest ringing your Dr and seeing what they say about the Piriton and what dose your DD can have. DS wasn't scratchy at all, but he was a poorly chap and very unsettled at night, so I just kept dosing him with Piriton and Calpol. Didn't bother with calamine as he wasn't itching and I didn't want to dry his skin out any more. Dr also recommended bathing him in the sort of oil you would use for eczema. Hope your DD gets better soon.

My ds had it at a similar age and i used medised and calamine cream (less runny than lotion). Good luck

Thanks very much for your advice! Will ring GP this morning about piriton and if not allowed it will send DH out to buy some medised

If you are bottle feeding and giving piriton give extra water as constipation can be a real problem with piriton.
