2yo complaining of sore back, advice please!

DS aged 23mths has been complaining of a sore back. I think he mentioned it for the first time a few weeks ago and he touches his lower back when he says it.
At the moment he is full of the cold and quite miserable and he has mentioned it about 4 times since getting up from his afternoon nap.

Is this just general aches and pains, growing pains, could it be from bending his legs up too far when he has a nappy change...?

Or is he just saying it for no reason? There are no marks, bruises, rashes or anything unusual that I can detect. Should I just ignore it and not worry about it?

Anyone have any experience of something similar or any advice?

Any chance he could have a urine infection? Has he been having lots to drink, having lots of wet nappies / wees in the toilet? sometimes lower back pain can be sign of a kidney infection / urine infection.

Or he may have the flu viris thats going around making everyone ache all over? If he is having no problems with his water works, I'd dose him up with calpol / brufen for the next 24 hours and if he's still complaining over the weekend get him seen by on-call GP / walk-in centre, or sooner if you think it is getting worse. HTH.

it's hard to tell. atm he is off his food but drinking a lot. he always has lots of wet nappies. he does have the flu. can't get him to take any medicine- have been trying to disguise it in food/drinks but he just refuses it.

Sounds like it is probably flu-ey aches and pains, especially if he wont take medication. Keep an eye and if you're really worried take him to the doctors. Its good he is drinking a lot, he can probably live without a bit of grub for a few days - my ds is always off his food when he is poorly, but appetite returns with gusto as soon as he's better.

just gave him a bath and he has perked up quite a bit. will try to get some medicine in him before bed!
