Eustachian tube blocked, help can't hear

DH is really suffering from blocked Eustachian tubes, he's been to the doctor and his ears don't appear blocked or infected but the loss of hearing is driving him mad especially at work when lots of people are chatting or our three children are going crazy at home. Does anybody have any magic remedies. He is currently inhaling steam mixed with Vicks.

I would recommend drinking a lot more water and gargling with warm water mixed with a few drops of tea tree oil. I don't know if it actually does any good or if it was a placebo but I have found the two things helpful in the past. A decongestant might help too in which case definitely increase the water intake as they can be very dehydrating.
