Chicken Pox parties: Is it cruel & how long from infection for spots to appear?

My friends daughter woke up with chicken pox yesterday. By 12pm there were 4 of us all round her house, getting the little girl to kiss and share her bottle with all of our children... it felt quite wrong!! But we all thought it was better to get it while they are young (DS is nearly 2) than when they are older.
DS is quite grumpy today and very clingy, he also had a very long sleep. Is it possible for the chicken pox to come out so soon? No spots yet though. I suppose it could be a cold or something else picked up by all that germ spreading!!

Incupation period for chicken pox is about 10-14 days I think. Could they have been infected at the same time a couple of weeks ago?

My DD had chicken pox fairly mildy and it was over and done with fairly quickly. Others are not so lucky and it can be horrible for a few days.

oh and DS was exposed 3 times to CP as a toddler .. and it wasn't till the 4th time when he was 4 that he finally caught it, then gave it to DD .. we thought he was immune so it was a shock

They do get together once a week so it is possible. He seems fine so far today though.. just want to get it over and done with. I do feel a little guilty though, as he is happily playing and I have on purpose put this little bug inside him that is going to make him feel rotten for a few days!!

Nothing wrong with that ... its worse to get it older. You are saving them pain and distress in later life - now who could say that's wrong?!
