Did anyone feel different after Mirena was gone?

Mine fell out 5/6 weeks ago and I got diagnosed with fibroids but is this a psychological coincidence that when I had his put in, I gained 2stone in one year and my acne was dreadful.

since it's out, my entire mood is different (better, stable) and my overall lethargy and can't be arsed approach to life has gone? I just feel weirdly free - although until it fell out, it was not something I was aware of anyway?

Yes I do - my mirena was pushed out a few weeks ago by a polyp and apart from the on going problems with that I feel like a weight has lifted. Similarly not aware of the effect it was having on my mood! Lost weight too

Been in 18 months my mood is low I have put on weight too

Following with interest....I'm going to book to have mine removed in a couple of weeks. Currently waiting for my 2nd breast clinic appt in 18 months due to a painful, lumpy boob that has only come about since coil inserted 2 years ago. Plus I've got an internal scan the week after next to check coil still in place as my periods have returned after 18 months of nothing. I too have noticed that I am having phases of huge anxiety, which is totally not like me at all (I'm usually a very positive, upbeat person).

Could of course all be totally coincidental, but does make me wonder about the hormones.

Oh. I have been feeling very anxious recently. Mirena been in 2.5 years though...probably just anxiety?! I have suffered with thrush post intercourse since it went in though. I know thats linked for sure.

underpar I've had my mirena 2 years and definitely don't recall anxiety during the first year, but as time has gone on, I've gradually become worse and noticed it more. Now logging the phases of anxiety in my diary. I want it out but just want to get through the various hospital appointments coming up first, even though one is to check its all in place (DH can't see the point if i'm planning on having it out, but, due to feeling anxious, I said i'd rather have the internal to check all ok inside & nothing else strange going on to cause the random periods ).

Yes. I felt much much better. (But mine made me gain 3 stone, gave me anxiety and depression and (just to top it off) migraine symptoms so bad that the GP thought I had MS.) So I was well rid of it!

I too had god awful depression last year, immediately after having it in in december lasting till April when it improved after I took some drastic action re my lifestyle, job and social life etc, I can't blame the mirena entirely surely as I did have life issues going on, but everything just felt awful. I feel so different, despite actually suffering with the fibroids it's like my mood is just so much more positive. And yes to anxiety! It was at times dreadful. It's only been 5/6 weeks like I said so maybe too early to tell.

I didn't want it out, it fell out so I would not have put this together mood vs mirena. It's a great contraceptive option and now I am a bit stuffed! I can't have copper as bleeding so bad! So what now?

I had mine out after 2 years in a month ago . Feel like I have been having a terrible time with the hormones since. I to developed painful lumps in my breast .

Following this thread with interest. Mines due out soon and contemplating not having one in. Apart from having 2 DC's I haven't been hormone free since I was 15.
But then contraception wise I don't know what other options there are.

Once I had mine removed it was like a switch had been flicked, my mood and libido improved, I didn't realise the change in myself until it was removed oh and the crippling migraines, I too have been on hormones since I was 15, sterilised last year and my mood is much more stable, my periods are better, my skin is better, it can't be a coincidence.

I had mine out to ttc.
I missed it terribly, despised having cyclical moods / bloating / bleeding.
I was so relieved to have it put back in at 8 weeks postnatal. It was like being reunited with a friend(!)
(Unfortunately that was 3.5 years later due to infertility and a loss, that's a lot of unnecessary bleeding!)

God I stopped feeling murderous within twenty four hours. I gave the thing nine months, it turned me into such a cow.

Much much happier back on the pill.

I've just been diagnosed with a 4cm diameter fibroid which is causing me massively heavy and painful periods, and my GP has suggested I have a Mirena fitted! I was going to post on here to ask about it because it seemed to me that it wasn't the right thing to do, especially as I am currently under a Tier 3 bariatric consultant waiting for referral for a gastric bypass due to being extremely overweight. These circumstances to me don't add up to a Mirena being a good idea - what does everyone else think?

I had mine hoiked out by the nurse as soon as I told her about the awful (truly crippling) pain I was getting in my side accompanied by terrible gut spasms. Apparently the mirena can cause symptoms to be worse in people who suffer from ibs and similar conditions.
I've never suffered again since.

My type of fibroids pushed the mirena out. I have the ones that are in the lining. I can't have another because my womb is distorted. But usually mirena is first port of call because I think the hormones in it can help reduce them... it's a common practice IMO.

I had no issues with the periods or anything on Mirena until the fibroids dislodged it. Now also I feel so different in mood too. I did gain weight but then I was depressed and anxious! It's hard to know what's right because everyone has different experiences

I was murderous and suicidal on mirena. It worked as contraception for sure, mostly because it made me so fucking awful that my husband didn't want to come anywhere near me!

Had it out and felt better instantly, which could well have been psychological but was real in my head.

The irony of it all was that I only had it because we were adopting because I couldn't have children so contraception was not needed anyway. It was months of unnecessary hell.

I hated the mirena and took it out myself in a moment of desperation. After a break during which I had dd I then had a copper coil put in. No side effects except for heavier periods. But as they aren't painful I don't really mind that.

I had mine almost 3 years when my periods returned and they were quite heavy. I was busy with work and kids and holidays so I made a mental note to get it checked when I returned from holidays. Then I started to feel sick and vomit and voila I was in fact 9 weeks pregnant! Looking back now my mood had improved and my sex drive had definitely returned. I'm now over due with my mirena baby!

I don't know what to do next. I am seeing a gynae at the end of the month. I don't want the mirena or more kids

I had mine taken out after 8 months. It had turned me into a grumpy fat sexless moody introverted mess. I'm back to normal again now 😙

Hormonal contraceptives have been clearly linked with an increased likelihood of depression, and implants and Mirena have the highest incidence.
