Is this an abscess? (Tooth)

I've had a stubborn infection in a root-filled tooth for the last month, had amoxicillin twice and metronidazole once. Finished a week of Amoxy on Friday and by Saturday night the pain was back. This time it seems different though, it feels like the pain is in my jaw bone/cheek bone and I feel like there's swelling in my face/jaw. It's not as painful as it has been previously, so had made an appt to go back to the dentist at the end of this week before the swelling started. Now I'm wondering if I need to see if I can get in earlier? I'm on the waiting list for an extraction so I don't think there's a huge amount he can do before then, and he said last time he'd be reluctant to keep prescribing antibiotics but it seems like that's all that's keeping it at bay.

Currently suffering with mouth abscess myself. I've been in agony today! Antibiotics due to kick in any moment. Hope you feel better soon Flowers

Sorry to hear you're suffering too, toothache is the pits!
Mine is actually less painful than before but is totally in my jawbone/cheek now rather than in the actual tooth. I still don't know if I'm ok to wait until Thursday, everything online says to get seen urgently but not how urgently!

Fellow abscess sufferers unite. I had hoped I was turning a (good) corner, but this morning I feel lousy. It seems to have spread to ear and eye area and is still in the mouth too. Can't eat. Antibiotics not get doing their magic. Can't get painkillers to last long enough. If I don't get any progress by tomorrow morning I will seek a professional opinion. Hope you feel a lot better soon!
