Period, mooncup and stretchy discharge

I haven't noticed this before and I'm a bit perturbed.

My period started today and I use a mooncup. When I took it out it was accompanied by what I can only describe as a long trail of an egg white substance. It was very long and there was loads of it. Plenty of blood too.

I'm 41 and I've used a mooncup for ages and I've never seen anything like this before. It's like mid cycle discharge, only more of it. Period is due, maybe a bit late but I have PCOS so I'm not really regular as such.

I'm really puzzled. Any ideas?

Ovulation? You can ovulate in the middle of your period can't you?

Temporaryanonymity · 13/12/2016 01:03

Really? I didn't now that. Its day 1 of my period. Theres also a lot of the mucus, way more than I have ever seen before.

Any suggestions? It's still happening and it's WEIRD.

I get it all the time since starting a different pill. Have you changed anything like that recently? I normally get one or two days of really heavy blood and stretchy stuff and then it slows right down into blood tinged stretchy stuff.

Temporaryanonymity · 13/12/2016 20:39

No, I'm not on the pill. I've been using a mooncup for about a year now so I would have noticed this before. It does seem a little more normal this evening though.

Googling just brings up a load of stuff about cervical mucus and TTC. I'm definitely not trying to get pregnant!

It sounds like ovulation. I don't ovulate until the end of my period. Sorry, not much help. Not sure it could be anything else from that description. Was it like your normal ovulation?

I don't think you can ovulate during a period. The period is linked to the last ovulation, and period happens 14-16 exactly after ovulation.
Could just be some rogue mucus stuck somewhere since ovulation until the period brought it out.
If you had ovulated again now today, you could expect another period in 14-16 days. I would think that would be very unusual though. As different hormone levels are needed for the two different processes, but maybe someone who knows will come along and tell us.

'14-16 days'

Well that's the thing. I'm 41 with PCOS and rarely ovulated until my first son was born with the help of fertility treatment. I ovulated regularly after he was born and my second son was conceived easily. I rarely ovulate these days.

I didn't think you could ovulate during a period either.
