Itchy scalp!

DD (13) has extremely long thick hair, it beautiful but prone to knotting as she doesn't brush it enough.

For the past 3 months she has had a very itchy scalp.... I have been through it with a nit comb (took forever) numerous times, found nothing but dandruff. Irrespective, I have treated it twice with Hedrin Once.

Her scalp is sore and scabby in places.

Tonight I have been through it again with a nit comb and again there are no signs of nits, just dandruff ( I got a magnifying glass out to double check and it doesn't look like eggs either)! She is scratching constantly.

We are used to nits, DD (11) had them regularly last year so I know what they look like!

Tonight I have put coconut oil in her hair, we have tried various different shampoos, any other suggestions please?

Also, I really want to take her for a haircut, what's the etiquette with itchy scalps?

Thxs

Sounds like sebhorric dermatitis. I've got it, it's horrid.

If she is that age, the Dentinox baby shampoo for cradle cap might help. Failing that try Nizarol. My gp prescribed it for my DD when she was 3, but you can buy it over the counter.

Try nizoral shampoo and disinfect all her hair brushes, combs etc. Gp may be able to prescribe this? She may have a yeast imbalance on her scalp. Taking probiotics orally might also help. And hot wash all her towels with bio soap powder. Hope that helps.
