Labyrinthitis - mini recurrence after 4.5 years?

I had labyrinthitis about 4.5 years ago & had recurrent bouts - milder, more like an aftershock - for a good 2-3 years afterwards, normally when I was coming down with something viral. Over the weekend whilst in bed I've been having the sensation of the mattress falling away from under me (and clinging on for dear life) with nausea, the whirling sensation & nystagmus. However, its only happening when I lie on my right side. I'm OK on my back or left hand side. I'm more or less fine upright too, though I'm taking betahistine again to knock the nausea & mild balance disturbance in the head. Is it a mild recurrence of labyrinthitis or something else? I've never had it be so frankly one-sided before. If lying on my right is the problem, which ear is causing it? Woult trying the Epley Procedure at home help?

I had labyrinthitis a couple of years ago and ended up with damaged ears. I think that at this time you don't know if you have crystals in your ear (i.e. eppley manoeuvre would help) or labyrinthitis again which is a virus attacking your inner ear. I would avoid the eppley manoeuvre unless your doctor advises it. With luck it will be a cold virus and will clear up quickly. Sending lots of sympathy because vertigo sucks. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Thanks Silver.

DH has developed a heavy cold over the weekend, so I'm wondering if I am busy fighting the same virus (I don't have any cold symptoms). Usually when my balance goes wonky, a cold or sore throat appears in the next 48 hours.
