yes.it takes a couple of weeks for it to settle down, but after that ive found it brlliant. i had mine in for a year (only had it out becuase im ttc).i hardly had periods at all, and no horrid hormonal side effects.

its great IMO

hoolagirl · 15/02/2007 18:01

Its meant to, I don't have any periods at all now with it and think its great. Took a few months for the bleeding to settle down though.
It doesn't agree with everyone though so I guess you won't know until you give it a try.

Get the odd spotting now and then (brown rather than red though)

No partner so can help on that part

Good luck

You'll find out!
The wires are iron oxide!
To be fair only lasted a few days till they made themselves at home, well worth it.

Furball · 16/02/2007 03:27

i've got a mirena and it's brilliant am now on my second they last for 5 years. Best pro ever is no periods - how fantastic is that? My threads are made of a fine 'fishing wire' type material but i nor dh feel them.

sazjaz · 16/02/2007 09:28

I had the coil for a couple of years but while I had it fitted I fell pregnant with DS2.

sazjaz · 16/02/2007 09:44

o m g . how come it never worked

OP posts:
hoolagirl · 16/02/2007 10:49

Its the same as any type of contraceptive, nothings 100%.

McDreamy · 16/02/2007 10:54

The mirena coil would help with heavy bleeding (I don't get periods at all) but a side effect of the copper coil is heavy periods. I personally would recommned the mirena but I know not everyone gets on with it.

2gorgeousboys · 16/02/2007 16:38

Sorry didn't mean to frighten anyone. Don't listen to me for contraception advice - DS1 was conceived while I was on the pill (only 21 and GP did not tell me I needed to be careful on antibiotics) and DS2 while I had the coil
