I have thrush but no symptoms

Possibly TMI but I have just been to the hospital to have a consultant look at my cervix due to bleeding when my smear was done (this is all fine), but I have thrush, the consultant told me straight off and it was really obvious (and grim) on the video screen. I had no idea, not the slightest clue, I've had no symptoms whatsoever!

To my knowledge I have never had thrush before, I realise it's easily treatable but my concern is, if I have no idea I've got it in the first place, how do I know when it's gone? How do I know if it comes back? Is it damaging if not treated in the long term? I will make an appointment to discuss with my GP but for now I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what was the outcome?

I had the same thing happen. Didn't even know I had thrush but apparently I did. I just took a caneston pill and did the cream thing. I think generally there will be some kind of symptom, even if its just slight.
It's knowing what's normal and what isn't. If you ever suspect you might have thrush, then its best to treat it anyway.

I suppose I will at least be on the look out for it now

Had to reply because found myself in the same situation this week. Thrush picked up by routine urine test by midwife but had absolutely no symptoms! Made me worry how long I had had it without knowing. Was reassured that it doesn't harm the growing baby but still a bit shocked that I could have no idea!

I guess if it isn't causing you symptoms it also won't be causing you any harm? Unless thrush has side effects I don't know of?

Oh and to answer your question- my GP has asked me to do a repeat urine sample to check it has cleared up- could you ask the GP to test for you?

Thanks for the replies. It makes me feel better that its not just me. I'm usually quite on top of things with my health and it caught me totally off guard.

Good idea. It takes three weeks to get a GP appointment round here so if I treat it myself today then by the time I get an appointment in theory it should have cleared up.

It should definitely clear up with over the counter stuff. I had thrush while I was pregnant as well, I don't think it does very much. I wasn't even sure how long I'd had it either.

My GP said it should treat it within a few days so def should be clear after 3 weeks OP. Could you call and request a urine test before seeing the GP? All they have to do is send off the sample (dip isn't enough)
