Really bad taste in my mouth...?

I've got this really bad taste in my mouth - kind of on the back of my tounge and the roof of my mouth, right at the back. I don't quite know how to describe it - bitter I guess - like if you try to take an uncoated paracetamol and it sits in your mouth too long. It's been there since yesterday morning - I've brushed my teeth, had things to eat but it keeps coming back. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

Oral thrush maybe?

Sugarmagnolia · 14/02/2007 12:05

Really? Never had it, would there be any other symptoms? What do you take for it? Would live yoghurt help? Although I just had some about an hour ago and it didn't do any good. Anything else it could be?

i have this but put it down to a combination of the vit c & zinc pills i am taking to fight of a cold and the cold that is lurking.

Sugarmagnolia · 14/02/2007 12:20

I have recently started taking a multivitamin - do you think that could be causing it? I've been taking it for a few weeks though and the taste only started yesterday.

took a few weeks for the zinc taste to kick in.

I have this but my throat is closing up and hurts like hell too. I'm off to docs this afternoon with it as had it since sat and nothing is relieving it

Will let you know the outcome if you like? are you in any pain?

ShowOfHands · 14/02/2007 12:25

If it's oral thrush you'd probably have other symptoms- slightly fuzzy or bumpy tongue usually. It often makes food taste funny too. Caused by lots of things including nutrition changes and taking antibiotics.

Easily treated if it is this, you just need anti-fungal pastilles from the GP.

Strange bitter tastes are also symptomatic of pregnancy...

Sugarmagnolia · 14/02/2007 12:27

I AM NOT PREGNANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(trust me )

An emphatic denial there!

Hate to even suggest it as an answer to anybody (in fact are there any symptoms that are not linked at some time with pregnancy?).

If it is a fungal infection like thrush, a very good mouthwash like Oraldene will probably do the trick. Oraldene's great anyway for a yucky mouth! You can buy it in most chemists.

Sugarmagnolia · 14/02/2007 12:48

thanks, will try that

Well I got some Oraldene - I went into the pharmacy and said my imaginary friend ShowofHands said so! No, not really. I described the problem to the pharmacist and that was exactly what she recommended. Hope it helps.

I think it is your vitamin pills - I get this when I take certain brands.

ShowOfHandsWithFalseBeard · 15/02/2007 18:13

Oraldene is wonderful. I just love that very first swill where it feels like its taking the enamel off your teeth/roof off your mouth.

Tis great stuff in all seriousness. Hope the nasty taste disperses!

Sugarmagnolia · 17/02/2007 07:35

It did the trick, thanks!
