What would you write?

I'm about to go into hospital and I've been told that whilst I've got to have this surgery, there's also a fair chance I may well not pull through, because of complications, that I already knew about.

I've been thinking I need to write each of my children a letter as I want them to know how very much and very deeply love them both.

But what else should I write? Everything seems so menial, whilst I'm staring the reality of death in the face.

Please, please, can you give me some ideas?

I'm so sorry you are in this position. Hoping everything goes well for you. You could write about your favourite memories of them when they were little and how your life changed for the better when they entered it? I think it is a lovely idea. Good luck.

Very lovely and important ideas. Write something about the qualities in them that you appreciate and something of your hopes of the values and principles by which they should live their lives - and why. Like e.g. don't choose a safe job for the money, have the courage to follow your dreams - maybe phrase it better! But make it your personal values, what you would really like them to have learned from you. And if you like, say why, e.g. when I had this experience, I learned that the most important things in life aren't "things". All the things that are important to say and rarely get said enough.

Best wishes for the op.
