DD has her first cold at age 10 months, so with the heat in our flat, teething and a very snotty nose, noone is getting any sleep! Does anyone know something good for this? Also does anyone know about saline nasal drops? In Oz we have this stuff called Narium which is essentially salt water you drip in their nose and it clears them out - great on planes as well. Can you get this kind of stuff in the UK?

have you got a nasal aspirator? it is a rubber bulb/nozzle thing that sucks the gloop out. you can get saline nasal drops here but don't know narium. you could try propping up mattress slightly.drop of olbas oil on a tissue under the mattress. hope she feels better soon x

Give her a bath right before you put her to bed. It will help her breath and sleep better. Also use a humidifier in her room. You can also can drops to put on her pjs that will help her breath (be careful not to use too much though or it could keep her awake). The snot sucker is a good idea although a bit traumatic to execute.

Thanks shrub. Do you get the nasal aspirator/drops at Boots?

Thanks AussieSim, we do the bath thing right before bed already and unfortunately our humidifier is back home in Oz but the drops on the PJs might help.

The nasal saline solution is the best! I've always used it on my two but I live in Switzerland (no help for you in the UK -- sorry!) You could ask for some in your local Boots or nearest chemist...

a good product just come on the market is nasosal. 2.99 from boots. can use it from birth and helps unblock the nose

Agree about the nasal saline solution, I got one that squirts rather than drops. It doesn't get rid of the cold but it makes them comfortable enough to sleep, plus cot tilted, karvol on pillow and all that.
I got mine in Oz Ouisie so can't help with the sourcing I'm .
Oh and Medised rather than calpol seems to dry them up a bit.

something we have always done when ds has a cold we put two books under the end legs of his cot. Therefore it is tilted and stops the snot running up and down his throat and helps stop coughing. we also put a little vaseline around his nose to stop it getting sore.

You can get Vicks Vaporub here in the UK, I always put that on a tissue and stuff it inside the clothes on dd1's teddy when she has a blocked nose or else put it under the bottom sheet on the bed. You can do the same thing with eucalyptus oil if you brought any over with you (we did!). You can also get saline nasal drops at the chemist (i don't remeber the brand name that i got) but I don't think they sell Narium here, at least I've never seen it. If you have an old bottle take it to the pharmacy and they can often give you the UK equivalent. Hope she gets better soon

Thanks everyone - we might make a trip to Boots tomorrow...
