How early can a baby get molars?

Hello!

I could be being really stupid here, but my 5 month old son seems to be getting a molar. It's his first tooth, but there is a speck of tooth round to the side of his mouth, which looks further round than a canine would be. I'm also worried because it is not coming out of the top of the gum, but coming out of the side (although since the whole tooth is not through that might not mean anything, I suppose).

Is this possible?! And is it OK to use ibuprofen AND paracetamol in tandem for a baby this young. The poor wee man is desperately unhappy but I just don't want to overdose him on Calpol and the Ashton+Parsons Powders don't seem to do much for him. Am using Boots teething gel and cooled teething rings too!

The little neo-teeth just sit there making hard gums for a long time, I really doubt he is getting a molar, though, so young. I never heard of any baby getting them under 1, before.

Do other physical things make him feel better? Warm bath? Being carried around the house? ice cubes? crisp bags? Good luck.
