Breast Lump and kidney infection

Sorry, but I have no-one to talk to in RL. I tried to talk to my mum and explain that I have found a lump and am scared, but she brushed me off and said it would be nothing and to stop upsetting myself for no reason.

I found a lump about 3 weeks ago, I have been to the GP, who first of all said it might be a blocked duct (odd as I haven't BF for about 2 1/2 years). She gave me antibiotics, and told me to go back if the lump didn't go.

It didn't, so I went back, she sent me for blood tests, I went back today to get all the results (half an armful of blood taken). The only test that has come back is a full blood count, which she said was fin. When I asked about the rest of them, she got all vague, and suggested that perhaps they were being re-done.

I also have a kidney infection at the moment, which is fairly minor, but is causing me a bit of pain and upset.

I think it is the fact that the bloods haven't come back on time, plus the lump doesn't hurt now, but is still there that is upsetting and worrying me the most. The GP originally said that if it was hurting, then it shouldn't be anything too serious.

Any advice or opinions gratefully received

Of course this is scary for you. It's easy to say it's nothing when it's not your breast lump!

It probably is nothing having said that. You are doing the right thing having it seen to promptly and I'm sorry it's taking so much time to have your mind put at rest.

The breast cancer charities have done a great job at raising awareness, plus I think all of us know at least one person who has been affected by the disease, so thankfully we are less likely to ignore a lump - that is life saving.

Get back on to your GP and let him know how much worry this is causing you. You might want to ask why you're not being referred for a biopsy.

I think sending off for blood tests when you've got a lump is a complete waste of time. As others have said, a lump is much more likely to be benign than anything worrying, but a blood test certainly isn't going to sort that out. Go back and ask for a referral to a breast clinic, I would. Your GP should have certainly offered that, at least, if only to put your mind at rest.
