What could this pain be?

I appreciate no one here is a doctor (probably!) but I can't find out any possible cause of this pain I have. On my left side of you put your hand at the bottom of your bra line and about a whole hand span down (with me so far!?) I have a real sharp sudden pain that will come and go and I can't yet see a pattern. Iv had it when sitting watching tv when driving and when cooking. It's so sharp it makes me intake a breath and then it will go, repeats a couple of times and will then go? I haven't hurt myself, I don't believe it is muscular as I haven't had a pain like this before.

Any suggestions? I don't yet want to waste doctors time as I'm not 'ill' and as the pain isn't constant it's not stopping me getting on with life?

If it's bad enough to cause you to take an intake of breath, then it wouldn't waste the doctors time.
You probably need use of medical equipment to try and get to the bottom of it.

It's over so quickly though? Just comes and goes. If it was there all the time I would have been to the doctors by now, as I'm not I'll. Normally if I go to the doctors with something and I'm not I'll they always say 'probably stress'

TBH, I'm not sure what it could be, but I would monitor yourself some more if you're not wanting to take this to a doctor.

Check for other things - does the pain move?
Is it after eating?
Is it after a certain activity?
I know you say there is no pattern but maybe use of a stethoscope or other monitors may help. Hence the advice to visit a professional.

If you're not concerned, you're not concerned. But based on what you've said and no physical exam, I'm sorry, but I'm not sure anyone can really help you.

There are lots of things it COULD be. But IMO that's not really a great road to go down.

Aches and pains can sometimes be a sign of aging, unfortunately

Go to your gp. It could be an early warning of something that needs attention. And even of you were 'wasting their time',it's a 10 minute appointment.

That's roughly where your stomach is, it goes over to the left there, under the left ribs. You might notice that the pain is more when your stomach is empty maybe. It could be gastritis - due to excess stomach acid. So you feel it more when there's no food there. I have gastritis and that's where I get the pain.

Thanks everyone. It's quite high up, behind my ribs and to the side. Is your stomach that high? I had it few times what falling asleep last night but haven't had it yet this morning

I hope not lama! I don't have any other symptoms, stomach if fine etc. I will see how it is today, I am manic today so no time for doctors so if it's the same I will go tomorrow

I have had something very similar for the last week. It hurts very sharply every now and then and breathing in is awful, I can't get a full inhalation. I ended up in the ER having a bunch of tests. In the end they saw pneumonia in my lungs and inflammation in my lining of my lungs. So they've diagnosed pneumonia and pleurisy and I'm due for repeat X-rays on Friday to see if my lungs are clearing or not. It's miserable. I'm exhausted from not being able to breathe right and I'm in pain. I am relieved it's not cardiac though. You should definitely be seen though, to rule out serious things. Now I've got a diagnosis I'm off work for 2 weeks (at least!) and been told to rest but also walk up and down my stairs a couple of times every 2 hours to get me deep breathing to prevent clots from not being able to fully inhale.

Wow snow that sounds awful! If I was 'ill' I would be down the doctors but I don't have even a cold. Every time I go to the doctors everything ends up just being 'stress' just because yes I have had a lot of stress (they read it on my notes) hence my reluctance to go.

I don't have a cold either. Only the pain. Totally weird how I can be this poorly with none of the regular signs. I hope you get your pain sorted, it doesn't help with your stress and anxiety when you are in pain and worried what others will think of you. I get like that sometimes. Best wishes 💐

I didn't know you could have pneumonia without the other symptoms! If I get it again between now and the morning I will try to get an apt. Hope you are feeling better soon!

It sounds a bit like what dd has. I just started a thread earlier. GP said she has painful rib syndrome but somemposteres here said it could be Tietze syndrome. But that pre cordial catch thing sounds like another possibility. Dd has had it for about a year now.

Tietze came up on google as did spleen, kidney stones and gas! I know i don't have trapped wind! It's very wierd. It will literally make me hold my breath after a sharp intake of breath and literally lasts a second, 2 at the most and then gone! Really hope your dd recovers soon.

Just been in with dd as she's had another attack.

She's been googling and is worried it's her spleen or her pancreas. Ive told her I don't think it is because after a year of pain if it was one of those it would have progressed!

Gall stones??

But yes I don't think it will be a waste of your GPs time to go and see them.
