Sick kids. How long to wait and see?

My ds has become quite unwell this afternoon with a high temp. This in itself doesn't worry me, but he has got really cold hands and feet and is complaining of sore eyes and headache.

I have checked him over for signs of a rash, which he doesn't have, and he is still able to look at the TV. He is 4.

I was in casualty myself overnight with a horrible ear infection and feel too sick and tired to make a rational decision.

How long would you wait and see before suspecting the dreaded meningitis?

I don't think I'd suspect it yet. Does calpol take the temp down? There are some nasty fluey bugs going round at the moment.

Down slightly with calpol. Just trying brufen now.

The ridiculous thing is I am an experienced paed ITU nurse, and am used to parents not seeking help early enough and not trusting themselves. But now I am a completely paranoid when it comes to my own children.

Will keep an eye on him for now.

Thanks for replying xx
