Any dentists here - swollen gum

Hi all,

I had a deep filling about 5 weeks ago, and have noticed over the last two days a swelling in my gun above the same tooth. It's not causing any pain except when pressing quite hard onto that specific point. I'm scared of dentists (I know!), so just wondered what your thoughts may be. No pain in the tooth itself.

Thanks

Difficult to say without examining but it sounds like a sinus. (Chronic infection tract ). Usually occurs when the tooth's nerve has died. Unfortunately, this is not uncommon when you've had a deep filling.
Usually need a Root Canal or an extraction once the tooth's nerve has died. Book an appointment to see your dentist again, don't leave it until it becomes acutely infected-pain& facial swelling.
At the very least, if it's nothing-your dentist can reassure you!

Thank you, makes sense to go before its painful. How bad is root canal?

It's really not that bad- most patients manage fine!
I've also had it done as a patient and nearly nodded off!
Good luck
