Help - how to get antibiotics in!

Hello all

Can anyone suggest ways to get penicillin into a very upset 1 year-old with tonsillitis?

She throws a paddy everytime I come near her with it. Spoon, syringe, in food - nothing seems to work. She'll open her wee mouth for calpol because she knows it tastes nice but this is foul stuff.

Please please please either tell me I'm not alone in this or offer me some magic tips!

You are definately not alone I could not get my children to take the ab's when they had tonsilitis. I gave up in the end as they seemed to be improving on their own and we hadn't really started the course at all (therefore resistance wasn't an issue) I also tried food etc but with no luck - they taste disgusting so it's no wonder!!

Not much help really except to reassure you that you are not alone

mix it with calpol?

mix it with something very sweet?

choc button in, medicine, another choc button?

Depends on how bribable she is - less likely at 12 months than 18 obv.

If all else fails, hold her firmly on your lap, lying down, and make sure she can't wriggle too much, and squirt it in the side of her mouth. Aim for her back teeth (or where they will be.)

Could you squirt some in just as she has milk, so she's already in position, IYSWIM?
