i was prescribed ranitadine for my bad heartburn whilst preg. i'm not sure but I think you can get it over the counter too.

sandcastles · 07/02/2007 12:00

You can get Ranitadine over the counter (Zantac, I believe), but it isn't as strong as the prescription 1. I found Milk helped me, as I didn't want to take naything whle pg.

I'm now taking Rantadine...3+ years on!

MAALOX
MAALOX
MAALOX

i drank Gallons of the stuff! (and you can get it OTC)

thank you. sandcastles i did actually find that a glass of milk last night was very soothing... i don't normally drink milk - the thought turns my stomach a bit (don't know why), but might add some of ds crusha to it...

think i'll go to the chemist and ask about ranitadine and maalox. thanks

My consultant put me on something called "Asilone suspension" which is much stronger than Gaviscon. It can be bought OTC, but you have to go to a proper pharmacy - its one of the things they have round the back. It comes in a blue bottle just like domestos and always costs some wird price (not expensive, just weird, like £3.63 or something). It really is the business.

fizzbuzz · 07/02/2007 13:04

I was on rantitidine twice a day at end of prgnancy. Go to doctors as it is expensive to buy.

Even on that I was still just existing on glasses of milk it was so bad!

Please also get your blood pressure checked. Are you absolutely certain it is just heartburn/indigestion/reflux and not pain? Do you have any other symptoms such as headache?
Don't mean to worry you, but it is important to be sure it is just heartburn.

kasdie · 07/02/2007 18:15

heartburn tabs out off morrisons they r cheap but really good only thing that works for me there own brand there not just mint aswell

Glassofwine · 07/02/2007 18:24

Heartburn was my biggest side effect of all 3 pg's - got earlier in the pg with each one. I tried everything suggested so far, the best being Maalox. However - the best relief came from eating Almonds!!!! Used to have bags of them everywhere - felt it was better for the baby too

thank you everyone.

doctor prescribed my ranitidine and i started taking it on wed eve - worked like a miracle! not a touch of heartburn since...

...makes me wish i'd asked earlier!

thanks.
