I've been bitten by a mouse!

My cat brought home a mouse and I managed to save the poor thing by opening my cat's jaw. In the process the mouse bit me (thanks a lot!) and went in reasonably deeply that I bled a bit. Is there any danger of infection?
I've never heard of anyone having problems having been attacked by a mouse (?) but just thought I'd ask.

are you up to date on your tetanus immunisation?
if not go see the gp.
otherwise, desinfect it well and keep an eye on it.

Wash it well and seek medical advice I think is the general jist - I think it will be fine if it's been cleaned and you keep an eye out for signs of infection.

I am always being bitten and pecked by creatures I rescue from our cats. Nothing has happened to me yet.

I'm not up to date with tetanus shot but have put an alcohol based disinfectant on the little wound.

you should check about tetanus.

Tetanus jab useless after the event...make it bleed with cold water...or if it did bleed minimal risk of tetanus.

If you had tetanus then you would need imunoglobin. Not the vaccine.

I think if someone were to present to a medical clinician they would be given the right sort of injection!

Exactly the same thing happened to me years ago......didn't die. Ungrateful bloody mice!

When I cut my head open on a nail in the garage recently I wasn't given a tetanus - if you were born and have always lived in the UK after the late 1960s and had all of your routine vaccinations growing up, they say it's not necessary.

yes you would think you would be given correct advice, sometimes it doesn't happen. Tetanus vaccine doesn't come on it's own either it is the Td/IPV (tetanus, diphtheria and inactivated polio). Tetanus likes anaerobic wounds (although can thrive in any environment - very unlikely) so deep puncture wounds that don't bleed. to encourage bleeding wash under cold water and squeeze a puncture wound. look up wound bath. Op did it bleed? here is the link for usage.

Wow thank you all for the advice. Yes it did bleed (very small wound so not much blood); I squeezed it to encourage blood too. It seems to be healing and doesn't look infected at all (no redness) but I've made an appointment with GP tomorrow just to be on safe side. I need to have up to date shots anyway.
