Bleeding after sex

DextersMistress · 24/09/2016 19:48

I have had irregular periods for the past 2 years due to the implant, I generally bleed every 2-3 weeks.
A few weeks ago I was a couple of days past a week long bleed when dp and I had sex, I started bleeding again immediately and it lasted another week.

Last night it happened again, I bled straight away after sex and am still pretty heavy now.

I'll be having the implant out asap but any ideas why this is happening?

Go straight to your GP

Trethew · 24/09/2016 19:53

Whether you mean an IUD or a hormone capsule under the skin you should not be bleeding like this

Implant in my arm.

Please see your GP.
It's probably nothing to worry about or just your implant being a dick but see your GP.

NHS page shows there's lots of things it could be. Most non-scary. But there is also a scary one. So chances are it's nothing or one of the non scary things but don't take the risk.

Is it every 3 or 5 years they say for smears now? I had similar issues so had my first smear. In all honest I think it's to do with your contraceptive. It does take a while for things to settle after. Just to settle your mind, I have had irregular bleeding, all smears, bloods, swabs etc came back normal, I'm just abit special. But best to get it checked. Fingers crossed for you. Keep us updated.

I get this too!! I'm also on the implant but I'm only 24 so can't have a smear till next year, doctor said no when I asked. Hope you get checked out & everything's ok.

It's normal to bleed all the time with this bloody awful implant. I bled for 8 months solid until I had the damn thing removed

I wouldn't worry too much about it being sinister but j would get it taken out

OliviaBensonOnAGoodDay · 25/09/2016 00:52

I had this. I was terrified and left it far too long before i plucked up the courage to see my GP. I told him all about it and he had a quick look and said it was a cervical erosion, which can be caused by long term hormonal contraception. Totally benign and nothing to worry about, would go away on its own.

He did a smear just to be safe and sure enough it came back totally clear. The bleeding stopped as suddenly as it started and i haven't had it since (2 years).

It's really probably fine, but book an appointment. Good luck!

Thanks for the reassuring messages. I'd got used to the constant bleeding but after sex was a new (and worrying) one. I'll be at the docs Tuesday and will let you all know Smile

I get this. Also have an implant but still got it after it came out. Waiting on a gynaecology referral but doc had a look and thinks it's cervical erosion. Go to the docs and have it checked out.

Quick update, I've been to the doctor but she couldn't see much past the blood. Told me to get rid of the implant asap and go back to her. Mentioned possible polyps?
