Does this sound like thrush?

I don't think I've ever had it before, except for once during a smear the nurse said noticed some thick discharge and told me yo get some canesten. Even though I had no other symptoms.

I'm 20 weeks pregnant and the itching inside my vulva is driving me insane. From what I can tell there is no pain or itching further inside.

I've tried all sorts short of diagnosis and medication - cotton underwear, sleeping with no knickers on, not using shower gel on that area, and I've tried various levels of pubic foliage

I have a lot more discharge, sometimes watery, sometimes really creamy but no odour.

It really feels as though my pubic hair is creeping inside and prickling!

It doesn't hurt when I wee, and sex doesn't hurt, but does aggravate it afterwards.

Do I need to get it diagnosed by my GP before I can get any treatment, or can I just ask over the counter?

Sounds like it. Go to the GP to be sure; you can then get the stuff from the pharmacist and be right as rain in a couple of days. I wouldn't go straight to the pharmacist in your case though as a) if you haven't had it before there's a chance it could be something else and b) if you are PG I'd want to be sure you get something that's suitable.

Go to gp, trysh has cottage cheese type discharge, sometimes when it comes out its hard to tell but gp can see it. Also if its not trush it could be bacterial infection and you will need that treated before birth

Yes it sounds like it. My midwife told me to use natural yoghurt with a live culture, liberally smeared including inside. If that doesn't work I'm fairly sure topical anti-fungal treatment is ok in pregnancy (ie the cream or pessary not the tablet) and it's over the counter- the pharmacist will know what you can and can't take.

You have all my sympathy, thrush is awful!

Sounds like thrush. Ifyou are pregnant, and you decide to use the pessary, your GP will tell you not to use the applicator to insert it.

If I have to see my GP first, I'll have to grin and bare it for a while longer as the usual appointment wait time at our practice is over two weeks!

I might try some self treatment with natural yoghurt in the mean time. Thanks for your advice!
