When did you return to work with Sciatica?

I'm currently on sick leave with Sciatica. The pain has improved with rest, heat packs and many tablets but I'm still in pain everyday. The pain is manageable but it can quickly change to being in agony. When I walk I am still shuffling and limping then the more I walk the more the pain increases, I went to my local Asda and after 15 minutes of walking I was gritting my teeth in agony and had to leave.
I work in a physical job and there is no option of another role which is less strenuous. I'm just in a flap about when to return because I feel like I'll always be in pain so I should get on with it but on the other hand I don't want to make myself worse...
So I was wondering when people went back to work, how did you cope? Did the pain get worse or did you end up back on the sick? Sorry for the waffling!
